We were so beguiled by AD's bamboo-bound smartphone that we had to track down the designer to get some hands-on time with these work-in-progress prototypes. We met up with Kieron-Scott Woodhouse (pun unintended) and he offered to bring along several of the latest prototypes for us to get to grips with. While the finished product will arrive in the bamboo material but smoked to the darker finish. The darker model's button layout is also closer to what we can expect on the final device. The ADZero is still set to launch between the end of 2012 and the start of 2013. Bernanke warns of threat to economy from Europe

The United States remains within the danger zone of infection from Europe's debt crisis, but the Federal Reserve will do all?it?can to shield the U.S. economy from contagion,?Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke?said Thursday.

He also warned Congress to be careful not to let?its desire to cut?deficits harm the?economic recovery.

"Even as fiscal policymakers address the urgent issue of fiscal sustainability, they should take care not to unnecessarily impede the current economic recovery," Bernanke said in prepared testimony before the House Budget Committee. "Fortunately, the two goals ... are fully compatible."?

Bernanke said he was seeing signs that some of the uncertainty dampening U.S. business investment, including European banking woes, might be waning. But he said it was far too soon to say whether the United States could remain unscathed.

"Risks remain that developments in Europe or elsewhere may unfold unfavorably and could worsen economic prospects here at home," Bernanke told lawmakers in prepared remarks.

"We are in frequent contact with European authorities, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely and take every available step to protect the U.S. financial system and the economy."

Bernanke maintained a cautious tone on the U.S. outlook following a decision at a Fed policy meeting last week to announce that interest rates are likely to remain near zero until at least through late 2014.

At a news conference after that meeting, Bernanke indicated the central bank was considering additional monetary easing, but he offered no fresh hints of such plans in his testimony.

After slashing interest rates to near zero in late 2008, the Fed bought $2.3 trillion in bonds in a further effort to spur the economy. Many analysts expect it will further expand its portfolio in the months ahead with another round of purchases

Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke discusses his outlook on the economy, noting a sluggish labor market and increasing debt risking, producing serious economic consequences.

Bernanke is also appearing two days after the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the deficit will top $1 trillion for a fourth straight year and could stay around that level for years.

Republicans have been critical of the Fed's efforts to support the economy. Many have argued that keeping rates too low for too long could escalate inflation. And they've stressed that cutting government spending and lowering taxes are necessary to boost growth.?

Obama helps woman with husband's resume (AP)

WASHINGTON ? President Barack Obama may help Jennifer Wedel's husband find a job. Whether he gets her vote is another question.

Two days after Obama talked with Wedel during an online town hall and offered to take a look at her unemployed husband's resume, Wedel said the president has followed through.

Wedel told The Associated Press in a phone interview Wednesday that she got a call from a White House deputy chief of staff, Alyssa Mastromonaco, who told her Obama had made a personal point of making sure the matter was taken care of. Mastromonaco said the resume was sent to contacts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area where the couple lives.

Now Wedel's husband Darin has been contacted by several recruiters, and Wedel said she's grateful.

But Wedel, a Republican, said that may not be enough to get her vote unless Obama also improves some of his job policies.

"Just because he's able to send a resume out, that's not going to be a vote factor," Wedel said.

"We're just one American," she said. "There are thousands of Americans just like my husband with no job."

Wedel wants Obama to look at limiting the number of visas going to high-tech workers from foreign countries, the issue she raised with him Monday evening in the forum hosted by Google Plus. Wedel was able to question Obama in a live video chat room known as a Hangout.

Obama expressed surprise during their exchange that Darin Wedel was out of work, saying that the word he was getting from industry was that fields like semiconductor engineering were in demand and Darin Wedel should be able to get a job. Obama also said he found the situation "interesting," a comment Republicans have subsequently used to attack the president by suggesting he's out of touch with the concerns of the unemployed.

Jennifer Wedel said Wednesday that she felt like she was "hushed up a little bit" by Obama when they spoke, but that she also found him candid and appreciated his accessibility. "I don't think any other president has shown that outreach," Wedel said.

While Adele hinted as much earlier this month, it was officially announced Tuesday morning that the six-time Grammy nominee would be singing live at the awards show, marking her first performance since undergoing vocal-cord surgery last fall.

"I'm immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards," the best-selling artist of 2011 said in a statement. "It's an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all."

Adele, who already has two gilded gramophones to her name, is up for Record and Song of the Year for "Rolling in the Deep," Album of the Year for 21, and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Someone Like You," among other nods.

Earlier this month, she confirmed that she would be performing at the Brit Awards -- the U.K.'s answer to the Grammys -- which take place just nine days after the LL Cool J- hosted U.S. ceremony, thus setting tongues wagging that the more world-watched stage would make for a more prestigious comeback.

And the speculation proved true, as Adele, in a slightly less formal statement than the one she issued to the Academy, revealed on Twitter Tuesday morning.
