BOISE -- Two Florida men were booked into the Ada County Jail Friday following an investigation into thefts at around 10 local stores involving fraudulent credit card transactions.

Boise Police say Ernesto V. Rodriguez, 27, and Carlos M. Alvarez, 27, both of Miami, were using the phony credit cards to obtain gift cards at area stores. The losses to those merchants is reported to be in the thousands of dollars.

The two men were arrested at an East Boise hotel around noon Friday. Police recovered dozens of credit cards and gift cards.

Police were tipped off to the crimes by a local bank.

Investigators believe Rodriguez and Alvarez would travel from city to city to commit crimes.

They are each charged with grand theft and fraudulent use of a financial transaction card. More charges may be forthcoming.
